Rubbish removal questions, answered plainly
How do they price it without seeing it?
Photos. Rubbish is priced mostly on volume and what it is, so two or three photos of the actual pile — plus a note on anything heavy like concrete, soil or whitegoods — lets removalists commit a real locked price instead of "from $X" that grows on the day.
Do I need to move everything to the kerb?
No — loading from where it sits is normally part of the job. What matters is access: say whether it's up stairs, down a narrow side path, or in a locked garage, and roughly how far from where a trailer or truck can park. Good access honestly means better prices.
Is there anything they can't take?
Yes — asbestos and some hazardous materials (chemicals, paint, gas bottles) need licensed disposal and aren't a standard rubbish run. If you suspect anything like that in the pile, especially old fibro sheeting, flag it in the description rather than hoping it slips through.
