Tiling questions, answered plainly
Do I supply the tiles or does the tiler?
Either works — just say which in the description. If you're supplying, mention the tile size and how many square metres you have; if the tiler is supplying, describe the look you're after. The offer will state exactly what's included either way.
My shower needs retiling — is waterproofing involved?
Usually, yes. Wet areas need a proper waterproof membrane under the tiles, and doing it right matters far more than the tiles themselves. Say it's a shower or bathroom floor in the description so offers account for waterproofing rather than surprising you with it later.
Can I just get a few cracked tiles replaced?
Yes — it's a common job. The catch is matching: if you have spare tiles from the original job, say so and photograph one. If not, photograph the tile close up; an honest tiler will tell you whether a match is realistic or whether a small feature-area redo will look better.
Regrout or retile?
If the tiles are sound and it's the grout that's stained, cracked or mouldy, regrouting is the far cheaper fix and a legitimate job on its own. If tiles are drummy (hollow-sounding) or lifting, that points to bigger problems. Describe what you see and let the offers tell you honestly.
